Progress on Sundown has slowed due to a little inclement weather and that other “W” word…WORK (the paid kind).
This week has included:
- A half-day retreat with my board of directors.
- Recording and editing public affairs spots about health and human services in Larimer County, Colorado, to air on KRFC 88.9fm radio station
- Taking our youngest son to the Department of Motor Vehicles to get his driver’s permit. YIKES!
- Attending an out-of-state college fair with the same son so he could explore postsecondary education choices for next year.
- Staffing a booth at Colorado State University’s annual SMART Fair which promotes alternate modes of transportation. I’ll be shared information about safe bicycling. Unfortunately, living on the front range of the Rocky Mountains doesn’t give one much opportunity to promote sailing as an alternate mode of transportation, but one poor, unsuspecting student got an earful and learned how we plan to use a bicycle to generate electricity on our boat, too!
- Writing two feature stories for Rocky Mountain Parent magazine; one is about Internet safety for kids and the other is about health care options for families who have a low income, or are un- or underinsured.
- Attending a one-day conference in Denver about an approach to health care called “medical home,” especially where it applies to foster children.
- Facilitating a meeting for local health and human service providers who meet monthly for professional development and networking, and
- Coordinating our city’s Safe Routes to School program.
I’m exhausted just writing about it all let alone doing it, so my husband and I are finally going to take some time to refuel. We’re packing our truck with all our toys–camping and climbing gear, mountain bikes and flat water canoes–and heading toward Moab and Lake Powell, Utah. I can’t wait to sleep in our tent and wake to desert sunrises. We’ll post photos once we’re back as I don’t anticipate having Internet service where we’re going. Besides, the computer stays at home!
When we are back (in a week or so), we’ll return to working on Sundown. The new tools my husband purchased will help.
Until then, we’re going to play hard and try to forget about work for awhile.
Cheers!
