We needed a break from the daily grind and headed for the closest really warm spot we know – the desert in southern Utah. While we didn’t do any sailing, we did enjoy a lot of sun, fun, peace and quiet. Truly, the silence was remarkably deafening! So was the music we listened to during the road trip. We cranked up Paul Simon and U2. You can enjoy the ride by watching a couple videos we filmed during our adventure (see below). And here’s a short list of where we went and what we did; the photo gallery will tell the rest of the story.
- Palisade, Colorado – home to some of the best wine in the U.S.A. We love Plum Creek Winery, Grand River Winery and got an incredible education at Varaison Vineyards (new to us)
- Fruita, Colorado – 18 Road – camped and mountain biked
- Moab, Utah – camped along the Colorado River
- Lake Powell, Utah – camped in a secluded cove with private swimming hole, paddled our flat water canoes, mountain biked and hiked
- BLM Land near the Natural Bridges National Monument in southern Utah – camped among the piñons, sage brush and red cliffs
- Everywhere – ate good food.
What gorgeous pictures ~ Felt like we were with you though only saw two boats and two bikes……
Ter – If you and George were with us, we would have brought more boats and bikes…and wine. 🙂
Hi Kim, Your desert trip sounds GREAT! We need a desert trip soon… I have a book title that you will love: “In Search of the Ancients” by David Roberts – all about the history of the southwest. He also wrote a new book on Everett Ruess that you will enjoy. I couldn’t put these books down! You can get them at the library. Talk soon. 🙂
Sarah, I’ve actually seen that book! It’s on my list…that never-ending list of books to read. Go figure! I hope to see you soon.
