I haven’t written a blog entry in a while and I’m feeling a little bit like a slacker. I tell readers on our “About Us” page to expect a fresh entry about once a week. Not following through with what I say I’m going to do is not my style. However, sometimes circumstances beyond our control (sort of) get in the way of keeping promises. So I offer these reasons for not blogging lately – excuses really – to you here and beg your understanding:
1. It’s COLD outside! So our boat maintenance has slowed down considerably and there’s not much to write about related to that. While we constructed Sundown’s winter coat to include easy access for days we want to work on her until she sheds it in the spring, daily high temperatures of maybe 30 degrees Celsius don’t invite industrious outdoor behavior from me (unless running, biking and skiing can be considered industrious).
2. Work, and a lot of it! We’re blessed with good paying jobs, so don’t read this as though I’m complaining. I just have had an out-of-control workload lately filled with deadlines related to grant applications, grant reports, board and committee meetings, community collaborations and freelance writing jobs. You can read more about my day (and sometimes night) job here.
3. The holidays are upon us, so there are added items on my to-do list that scream for attention. Not that I’m paying them much mind yet (see #2 above). I wish I had a domestic engineer to stay home and take care of the daily household chores, as well as holiday-related tasks like decorating, gift making/buying and baking.
After the first of the year, we plan to crank up the propane heater in our garage and work on some of Sundown’s parts, like polishing bronze port lights, and painting storage compartment covers and the bowsprit. Until temperatures are consistently in the 50s and 60s again, I’m afraid Sundown will have to sit by herself in the snow-covered prairie dog field.
