We’ve taken one more step to launch us in the direction of living full time on Sundown, our Hans Christian 33t sailboat.
About one month ago, I left my salaried position as the director of Healthier Communities Coalition of Larimer County, which was part of the University of Colorado Health Community Health Improvement Department. I’ve taken a leap of faith and am now doing business as KBC Communications. My work includes much writing, media relations, social media management, strategic planning, community initiative facilitation and network/connection building. (My website will be live soon, so look forward to that grand unveiling!)
While I operate out of a home office (hopefully soon to be a sailboat office), my work requires I attend meetings and sometimes that I work in a client’s office. I don’t mind either since this type of schedule keeps me bicycling to every meeting and to run every errand possible. After years of year-round bike commuting, giving up that habit would seriously compromise my mental health, which doesn’t need to be impacted by anymore risk factors than necessary.
You might be wondering what will happen to my biking habit when we live on a boat. The plan is to have a bike attached to a trainer/generator. When we want to use a computer or other electrical gadgets, we’ll have to pedal to pay for the electricity used. It will keep us in shape and super charged.
While I’ve been very consumed with starting and running my business, we’ve also completed a major boat project; we re-finished the whole deck with a fresh layer of gelcoat. Now I’m prepping the boot stripe for new paint and Clay’s busy resealing the teak pans on the deck. I’ll have photos and stories about those projects as soon as my work allows.
Until then, may you have smooth sailing.
Hi guys, Are you going to use solar too? It’s really inexpensive!
That’s the plan, but we haven’t taken steps in that direction yet. So much to do!!!
Love the logo! Best wishes!
Excellent! Happy for you both and congrats on the start of KBC! =)
Thanks! KBC Communications is one way we’ll float our boat.
Keep Steppin !! What year was your Hans built. I am interested in the condition of the electrical system upon purchase.
Steve,
She is hull #30 built in 1982 with all original electrical. The previous owner had added some accessory plugs and a 110v run for a battery charger.
