All the systems on a boat need to be working properly for a vessel to be ship shape and safe. If you have a sailboat, of course the first means of propulsion ideally are your sails, powered by the wind. Having a fuel-powered auxiliary motor also is necessary for a boat the size of Sundown.
So, when it came time to make sure the 1982 Yanmar 3QM30 diesel engine on our Hans Christian 33t was working properly, I quickly realized that I would need to upgrade the serpentine belt on its original Hitachi alternator. After being told by a couple companies they weren’t able to help me, I
contacted ElectroMaxx. They had just built a serpentine belt system for our kind of motor and were familiar with what needed to happen.
Unlike the other companies who said they couldn’t help, John Stevens, Electomaxx’s president, eagerly worked with me and had recommendations for my system based on the total amp hours and our intended use. I really appreciated his taking personal interest in our case.
To complicate things just a bit, however, I was under the gun to take delivery of the unit as we were scheduled to move Sundown in a month. This meant they had to work fast. And in addition to ordering a new alternator, I sent Electromaxx the original crank pulley, which
they machined at no extra charge. I was very please to receive the serpentine pulleys, 140 amp alternator and external regulator back in time to install before we left.
All in all, Electromaxx’s customer service, price point and product has been awesome, and is an important component to this new lifestyle we’ve chosen.
